As Mother's Day quickly approaches, we love to pause and take a few minutes to highlight a few incredible women around us that make it happen each and every day. From coaching T-ball teams to serving as a taxi driver to balancing a career, these women inspire us.

Next up in this year's "Moms that Make it Happen" series is Heather Thorgeson - a nursing school graduate from Our Lady of the Lake College who currently works for Superior Home Health as a Care Transition Coordinator.

Heather is from Jarreau, Louisiana. For those of you that don't know, it's a small town on the island side of False River. Today, Heather raises her sweet family - Lilly (6 years) and  Rudy (nearly 4 years) - in Port Allen.

We sat down with Heather, Lilly and Rudy recently to pick Heather's brain and gain insight on how she balances being a mom, a nurse, a coach and so much more. Here's what we found out....

IN A FEW WORDS, DESCRIBE THE BEST PART ABOUT YOUR CURRENT "SEASON."

My biggest pleasure in life is watching my kids grow and become their own little people. I love seeing them learn new things and apply those lessons in life.

I have two "doers" on my hands. They insist on helping fix breakfast and taking care of the dog before school. Our house is very busy and we stay on the go. Once school is over for the day, the fun really begins. We have dance, gymnastics, T-ball, soccer....the list goes on. Oh and we can’t forget our homework.

It’s a lot some days but it keeps us busy and I love it.

IN A FEW WORDS, DESCRIBE THE MOST CHALLENGING PART ABOUT MOTHERHOOD.

My daily struggles are trying to make sure that I attend everything that the kids are involved in while still working full time. It’s tough juggling work, home, after school life and anything else that might be thrown in the mix. I absolutely couldn’t do it without the love and support of my husband, family, and friends.

We have a huge family so we spend lots of time together. Our favorite thing to do is simply sit under our carport, cook and talk while we watch the kids run around and have fun. That only happens if we aren’t at a birthday party or a sporting event on the weekends.

IF YOU HAD ONE SINGLE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU COULD GIVE A NEW MOM, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

I always tell my family and friends that are new parents to just cherish every moment. They are babies and the next thing you know they are toddlers. It flies.

I love watching them love on and play with each other. In the evening before bed, we try and all sit in the chair and read a book. It's my excuse to get some snuggle time in. I know once they get older that will go away, so I try and enjoy it while I can.

DESCRIBE YOUR “MOM STYLE.”

Over the years after having babies, it has taken me a while to get a style of clothing that I love and feel comfortable in. When I shop, I am looking for something that can be dressed up or down. I always try to go towards tops that are loose, flowy and can be paired with skinny jeans or shorts. I tend to always lean towards dark colored shirts but I'm working on that. I started buying more colors and I love the way they look.

THANK YOU HEATHER!

We see so much in you and the way you mother your two littles. You have a "go getter" attitude and it is inspiring. Seeing you juggle "all the things" for your kids, along with managing a career is something we are in awe of. You're setting the stage for Lilly and Rudy to be strong leaders! We hope that you get to relax this Mother's Day and let the kiddos take care of you for a change. You deserve the best!

Heather Thorgeson is one of the hardest working and most successful multi-tasking Moms that I know! Heather works for a company that provides services to my hospital. Each day, she comes in to work like a tornado ready to go. She does this while maintaining her open, easy going, yet well-spoken presence, making her someone that everyone wants to be around. Her husband and children simply adore her, as do all her friends and family. In spite of a daily schedule that would exhaust a team of caregivers, Heather participates in every opportunity she can to further her kids creatively and athleticly. Heather juggles her work and family responsibilities with grace, style and a whole lot of pizazz!! She is very capable of creating a dinner party on short notice, without batting an eye. On top of it all, Heather has a classic style that is simple, yet elegant, making her equally at home at a crawfish boil or a Mardi Gras Ball. Heather makes being a working mom look easy.
